Literary speed dating

I was lucky enough to take part in a literary speed date recently at Wheelers centre in Melbourne. I was on the waiting list, and a place happened to open up.

Let’s just say it was an interesting experience. One that would end in disappointment for most attendees, many of whom were nursing stories that were either bad fantasy or about their cats.

I sat through the longest two minutes of my life with one publisher – as she attempted to intimidate me by staring at my bookmark to fill in 2 of the allotted 5 minutes.

But to cut a long story short – I now have to decide which submissions take priority, as I have been invited to submit a non-fiction prĂ©cis to two major publishers. I also happened to be last in the queue for a highly reputable children’s publisher – who wants me to submit my picture book – Dad’s cooking, a la Paul Jennings.

Not breaking out the champagne yet because the hard work is only just beginning. I know I will be framing the green card ‘last in the queue’ once I sign my contract.

Will keep you all posted. Thanks for the support. I look forward to sharing the book with you when it’s completed.

Anna :-)
