Sense imagery for writers

I’ve been collecting sense imagery like a magpie lately. If you do any type of writing, this kind of word scrap booking is highly recommended. Here’s a few I gathered this week (don’t steal mine – get your own!)

The best writing is sense- bound. It puts you right there in the experience.

Cutting your finger through yellow rubber gloves

The rhythm of someone filing their nails

Fragments of a saxophone riff barely audible in the distance

The pungency of toilet duck

Nameless, faceless mannequins in the window of David jones

A rough hand brushing your bare arm

The little burn inside your lip when your latte is too hot that you can’t stop biting with your tongue even though it hurts like nothing else

The smooth shine of hospital floors.

The sting of dettol on a raw blister

Accidentally stepping on a small stone with bare feet then hobbling all the way home

The slick of sweat down your back after a long run

The second skin of a duvet when it’s bucketing outside
