Metaphors for writing poetry – a list poem

Cataloguing beetles in Slovenia,
Aiming a pistol at a moving target,
Voyerism at its finest,
Wishing for an aerial view when you’re stuck in the forest,
A newfound reverence,
A drunk who speaks the truth on a tram,
Panning for gold at dawn,
Dreaming awake,
Straining pumpkin soup through a sieve,
Standing in the eye of a storm,
Being in the rain and pretending you are crying,
Balancing a house of cards,
Holding sand in your fist,
Reading the newspaper while sitting on the toilet,
Smoothing the blankets around a sleeping child,

Attempting to capture a moment before it is lost forever.

  1. “Standing in the eye of a storm,
Being in the rain and pretending you are crying”

    Nice juxtaposition!
